Avalon Wiltshire

Avalon genetic high fertility wiltshire

We introduced Wiltshire genetics in 1999 and have been building up our numbers using our recorded perendale ewe base. We have used North and South Island Wiltshire sires but have not been able to source any SIL performance recorded animals.

The Wiltshire has some traits which will be very valuable in the future. It has the ability to shed belly, crutch and body wool. It has good fertility but the growth and meat characteristics have been poorer than perendale and texel. Resistance is not as high as the perendale but there does appear to be some facial eczema tolerance.

Australian Genetics

To try and improve our wiltshire genetics we traveled to south Australia in 2004 to view some of the top performance recorded wiltshires in Australia. These animals were outstanding and are highly ranked on Lambplan. We hope to use A1 and embryo transplants to fast track our genetic progress.
